MINUTES OF COMMITTEE MEETING held on Thursday, 13th December, 2018

Present: Mrs B Gillen (Chair), Ms M Thornburrow (Secretary), Mrs J Garner, Mrs J Hewitt, Mr D Pedley, Mr M Ellis and Mr P Phizacklea.

1882 Apologies: Ms L Chambers (Treasurer).

1883 Minutes of Previous Meeting: The Minutes of the Committee Meeting held on 15th November, 2018 were approved by the Committee and signed by the Chair.

1884 Secretary’s Report: ACTION

Bowling Green Irrigation System: The grant application to the Big Lottery Fund was declined; it was considered that our project did not reach out enough to the wider community. A bid will be submitted to Sports England. MT

Annual Membership Renewal will start in January, and forms are available at the Club. The fee is £10.00. Payment may be made in cash or by cheque (made payable to ‘Co-op Sports & Social Club‘) and left at the Club, addressed to the Secretary. Please add email addresses as this facilitates the distribution of the Newsletters.

New Year’s Eve: Bookings are coming in slowly. £7.50 per person. To book for Members and friends, please ring Moira on 078578 97763.

Social Activities: Indoor bowling resumes on Monday, 7th January, 1.30-3.30 pm, and Keep Fit/Tap restarts on Monday, 7th January, 7-8.30 pm and Thursday, 10th January, 1-2.30 pm.

1885 Treasurer’s Report:

The Coffee Morning held on 1st December was a really successsful event, with a final total of £863, which included £35 donations.

Overall finances are picking-up because of events and room bookings.

Mr P Phizacklea, Bar Manager was thanked for voluntarily working Friday bar for the past few weeks; not having wages to pay when takings are low has helped a lot.

The Savings Account is healthy.

An outstanding Invoice for the new beer store door is awaited.

Minimum Wage increases in April, 2019, from £7.83 to £8.21. The Committee agreed to the Treasurer’s proposal to set it at £8.30 for paid staff.

There are no large expenses predicted over the next two months.

1886 Maintenance Issues:

The boiler is now working.

A new defibrillator cabinet overhead light is in position.

Re-varnishing of the dance floor is scheduled to take place during the first week in January.

1887 Bowling Secretary’s Report:

Lindal have put a new team into Division 3 of the Furness League.

Our Club has been given the Grand Masters Competition to host on the weekend 5-6th October.

The county sent a reminder about safeguarding – all of which we conform to.

1888 Advertising Boards:

There is one outstanding payment, and the advertiser will be contacted and informed that the board will be removed.

1889 Bar Manager’s Report:

Ms Jennifer Darragh has resigned from the bar team. In the short period of working at the Club, she proved to be very popular; a letter of thanks will be sent to Jennifer. Any Member who would like to receive training to work at the bar, please contact Mr Peter Phizacklea.

Christmas Opening Hours will be: Christmas Eve from 2 pm.

Boxing Day – bar open as usual Wednesdays

1890 Fundraising and Social Activities Report:

Details of the Car Boot Sale on 14th April will be discussed at January’s Committee Meeting.

1891 Health and Safety: Nil to report.

1892 ANY OTHER BUSINESS:

At the Club’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, 19th February, 2019, an amendment will be proposed to Rule 15 of the Co-op Sports & Social Club Constitution to increase the General Committee by one Member, in order to give recognition to the role of the Health & Safety/Safeguarding Officer as a Committee Member.

A St. Mary’s Hospice Charity box will be placed at the bar for donations.
